For the design of our rails we needed something that didn't look like a deck. We liked the cross cut rail design but were unable to find plans in any books. Since Donna is an independent graphic artist she drew up some plans using Adobe©Pagemaker and precise dementions and we built them. Above is her Pagemaker drawing. The arrow is pointing out a support that was viewed in closer detail to ensure it would work properly.
They were relatively simple to install, but as we put one part of the cross piece to a post and the other part of the cross piece to the opposite side of the post it simplified the process. We went to a local Anthony Barnes Lumber Company and bought 6" deck florring to be used as rails.
